I've owned a few pipes in my day. I started with a Savenelli that I purchased while on a road trip to Dallas. It smoked decent and performed wonderfully until a "buddy" asked if he could used in and promptly adjusted the stem while smoking and destroyed it. So frustrating. I went through a couple cheapo's until I finally came into a Peterson Aran series pipe. This pipe has been with me for a few years now and I'm still as much in love with it as the first time I lit it up. I'm gonna post a few posts extoling the virtues and differences but let's start with the P-Lip system.
The P-Lip system: this system is essentially a modified mouth piece. Instead of shooting smoke directly into your tongue, often resulting in tongue bite. This mouthpiece pushes smoke up into your palate resulting in a smoother evenly dispersed smoke. The P-Lip system also reduces the amount of draw you have on your mouthpiece, which helps to result in a cooler smoke. This is an excellent improvement as anyone who has every scorched their taste buds can tell you! A scorched tongue makes that amazing red wine much less amazing and repeated scorching could certainly increase certain health risks. I'm in no way saying peterson makes smoking healthy but it certainly makes it more enjoyable!
After 5 years of smoking a Peterson Pipe I can't imagine going back. I currently own a Aran series from Peterson and couldn't be happier.
This is the first in a multi-part series.. Next up spittle reduction!
